Dermal Fillers Q & A

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable, gel-like substances that Dr. Hakimian applies beneath the surface of your skill to reverse signs of aging caused by loss of skin volume. With dermal fillers, Dr. Hakimian treats aging signs including:

  • Lines around the mouth and nose
  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Thinning lips
  • Hollow cheeks
  • Sunken temples
  • Chin creases
  • Jawline creases
  • Facial asymmetry

Dermal fillers work by plumping up the skin at the injection site, thereby diminishing or eliminating features so you can feel and look your best.

Dr. Hakimian also offers fillers for nonsurgical nose rhinoplasty. During this procedure, he injects fillers into your nose to change its shape.

What ingredients are in dermal fillers?

Dr. Hakimian mainly uses dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid. He also offers one made from calcium hydroxylapatite.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that your body naturally produces inside the molecules that reside between each layer of skin. Hyaluronic acid binds and retains water, helping your skin retain its moisture. Results from hyaluronic acid fillers typically last between six and 12 months.

Dr. Hakimian works with a variety of FDA-approved hyaluronic dermal fillers, including:

  • Restylane® Lyft
  • Restylane Silk
  • Juvéderm® Voluma
  • Juvéderm Volbella
  • Juvéderm Ultra
  • Juvéderm Ultra+
  • Juvéderm Vollure

Calcium hydroxylapatite

Calcium hydroxylapatite is a naturally occurring substance that mainly lives in your bones as thick microspheres. When suspended in gel and injected under the skin, these microspheres create volume immediately.

Over time, the calcium hydroxylapatite stimulates the body to produce collagen, a protein instrumental to youthful skin.

At Laser Touch Medical Clinic, Dr. Hakimian uses Radiesse®, a calcium hydroxylapatite dermal filler that offers results that last about 12 months.

What happens during my dermal fillers procedure?

When you arrive at Laser Touch Medical Clinic for your filler session, Dr. Hakimian first cleans the area he’ll be treating, and then, if you wish, applies a local anesthetic. Then, he carefully injects the filler into the target area.

After treatment, you may notice some swelling and mild bruising at the injection site for a few days. You can go back to your regular activities immediately, but in some cases, you should avoid strenuous activity for a day.
