Rosacea

If you are suffering from Rosacea, at Laser Touch Medical Clinic, Dr. Hakimian offers non-surgical Rosacea treatments.

Rosacea is a skin condition characterized by inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, or eyelids, and typically results in a very red appearance. Other signs and symptoms of Rosacea include a tendency to blush easily, spider veins on the face, a red and bulbous nose, acne-like skin eruptions, a burning or stinging sensation on the face, and irritated or bloodshot eyes.

Here at Laser Touch Medical Clinic, we offer three ways to treat Rosacea. The first is a treatment known as Blue Light (Photodynamic) TherapyBlue Light Therapy uses a topical application called Levulan® Kerastick® to treat the redness and swelling of Rosacea. While the Levulan® Kerastick® would not normally be able to penetrate deeply enough into the skin to cause any noticeable improvements, photodynamic therapy combines this topical application with intense light energy, which activates the products and helps them be absorbed deep into your skin

Prior to the beginning of the procedure, the Levulan® product is applied to the skin and left for 30 to 90 minutes, after which the light treatment begins. You may experience mild discomfort during or after the treatment. If you have sensitive skin, let Dr. Hakimian know prior to the procedure, so he can apply a topical anesthetic before beginning. Typically, more than one Blue Light Therapy treatment is needed to achieve desired results. Each treatment should be spaced two to three weeks apart. After the photodynamic therapy, your skin may appear to have more dark spots, redness, and visible veins—this is common. These effects will decrease over the next several hours, resulting in skin that is free from the signs of Rosacea.

The second way we treat Rosacea is with a treatment known as SkinTyte™, which is commonly used to treat the signs of aging, but can also work to combat signs of Rosacea. SkinTyte™ works by stimulating the production of natural collagen in your body, helping skin to look younger and firmer within minutes. Each procedure takes about 45 minutes, and optimal results can usually be achieved in two to five treatment sessions, each spaced three to four weeks apart.

SkinTyte™ treatments require little to no downtime. You can resume work and daily activities immediately, and can wear makeup the same day after treatment procedure. Side effects include facial swelling, which is usually minimal and dissipates within 24 hours. Results can be felt right away, and will visually continue to improve over the next three to six months as your body continues to produce collagen and heal. Results will be gradual and long-lasting.

Finally, Laser Touch Medical Clinic offers a topical product to treat signs of Rosacea. This treatment is non-surgical and does not involve any injections or lasers. Obagi’s® Rosaclear™ system includes a gentle cleanser, topical gel, hydrating complexion corrector, and optional skin-balancing sunscreen. Dr. Hakimian can prescribe this take-home treatment for you so that you can let the gentle cleansers and topical applications treat your Rosacea without ever undergoing a medical procedure. Simply take the products home and let them help your skin heal.
