Broken Capillaries

Broken capillaries, veins, and blood vessels can often be unsightly signs of aging. Luckily, Dr. Hakimian offers several non-surgical ways to treat broken capillaries that are effective and non-invasive.

Broken capillaries commonly occur as we age, as large capillaries and smaller blood vessels weaken and begin to swell under the skin. This is not a dangerous situation, as a burst vein or artery would be, but is simply an annoying part of aging. Broken capillaries can result in small, spider-like red areas just under the skin, which are harmless but not very aesthetically pleasing, especially as they tend to occur on the nose and cheeks. Broken capillaries can result from age, trauma, too much direct sunlight exposure, or genetics.

Here at Laser Touch Medical Clinic, we offer two ways to reduce the appearance of broken capillaries. We offer a sclerotherapy treatment, which involves injections that are used to shrink and dissolve visible capillaries. This is a good option for those whose broken capillaries are very large or stem from a large or swollen vein or capillary. In this case, the patient is given local anesthesia, and injections are given directly into the capillaries. The capillaries will shrink and eventually dissolve.

Our second way of treating broken capillaries is through a laser and light procedure called laser vein therapyLaser vein therapy uses lasers to target the affected area and shrink the broken capillaries without damaging the surrounding blood vessels and tissue. Laser vein therapy usually must be delivered in one to four treatments. Slight redness may occur for one to two days, and patients are asked to stay out of the sun for 24 hours following the procedure.

Dr. Hakimian can help determine what form of treatment is right for you.
